Mentorship Programme participant

I joined the Capita Customer Solutions Mentorship Programme 2017. My mentor was Paddy Morrissey, Managing Director. I think this programme is a world class opportunity to reflect upon your career choices with the benefit of direction and feedback from an experienced business leader. At the outset my aim was to start a focused conversation on my career to date, and to define and sculpt my future career goals. I also wanted to increase my knowledge of Capita Customer Solutions and the company’s future plans. The Mentorship programme is a multifaceted tool. Paddy taught by example; he was prompt and well prepared at the outset of each meeting, and the phraseology of his questions had the effect of helping me break down my career choices to date. Another aspect of my mentorship involved getting feedback on my career from members of my family and from my manager Anne O’Donovan. Learning to ask for their feedback on my career – was a first for me. In fact my mentor taught me to connect and network with my own colleagues, each of whom gave up their time without hesitation to answer my questions willingly and honestly. All mentees and their mentors were given the opportunity in January to attend ‘Pendulum Summit 2018 – A Breakthrough to Brilliance’. The organisers of the event defined themselves as being on “a crusade to empower leaders”, and it certainly felt like that. This was a fascinating, empowering, professional conference whose speakers were business leaders who set about teaching all in attendance how to really focus on achieving their goals. The Mentorship Programme came at the perfect time for me, it helped how I dealt with business decisions over the past half year and it steadfastly encouraged me to achieve my yet outstanding goals. My mentor provided me with the focused conversation on my career that I wished for and the mentorship he designed provided me with the skills so that I could define fully my career aims. I realise now that I achieved more through this entire process than I hoped to at the outset. As my mentorship draws to a close, I am sincerely grateful I put myself forward for this and I encourage all colleagues to be aware of this golden opportunity that Capita Customer Solutions provides.
